αὐτόχθονος is about hard & real-time sequencers, synths & various sound sources, recorded raw in one take from a compact mixer to audio tape, digitalized, unwanted parts cut out in Soundforge, then taped back. An instant plunge into the experimental 70ies, when autistic standards & limitations lead to improbable configurations & happy accidents. αὐτόχθονος' heart is medievalist, feodalist, royal, chivalrous, faithful, providentialist, ultramontane, always preferring self-contempting fight for truth to self-indulgent pharisaic-mundane sensitivity.

On the outdoor side, a totally retrograde Berlin School inspired system will generate menacing & creepy themes, childish & primitive round-robin sequences, unquantized tuning discrepancies, catchy arpeggios hazed by endless filter sweeps. An aural marial cult feared by modernity, transmitted to an Invisible Audience, attending or not - how can one be sure ? - in the middle of nowhere. No drums, no drugs, no paradise on earth. Introspective tunes, gloomy as the dark cogs of this fallen world may be, loaded with deep sighs, moans & tears. HISTORY.

> In 2001, Yamaha's RS7000 workstation is showcased in a local music shop, sparkling like a miracle. It looks like the perfect tool to escape planet earth. I don't try to buy it. A horrible bad choice. My life-long intent to make ultra dark electronic music keeps haunting me. 2012 : i download Fruity Loops. Certainly not the same thrills. Months lost on four miserable tracks come down to the ridiculous HOBO DRESS CODE tape. A nightmare on Ibiza, a zombie dancefloor. Fantomatic as the screen to make it. I better go & learn the basics of synthesis on the real thing, like pioneers did before me. I don't care if it's a thing of the past. Want no more DAW. Eyes shut, I still can see that superb virgin RS7000, but it's long gone.


> Phase I [2013-16] : Trying out hardware. Dual Monotribes, a Minibrute, drum machines, mostly running their onboard sequencer or arpeggiator, synced in simple star-configuration, form a limited but intuitive set of instinctive immediacy. April 2014 comes a Grendel Drone Commander, the 303 of drone synthesizers, built inside a sturdy Nato 7.62 ammo can. April 2015 arrives the Grendel Grenadier, a mad box of frogs. Each time i switch those inspiring devices on, another cinematic, minimal track is improvised on the fly & recorded to tape. The production is mean and dark in a good way. Only two AUTOCHTHONIC HORROR c90 tapes have been cut so far, out of many more, trying back in those times to build a sound track for William Hope Hodgson's 1912 medieval-futurist sci-fi novel, The Night Land.


> Phase II [2017-2019] : The investment in a powerful, dedicated, external sequencer (Pyramid) to overcome limitations comes as a wolf in sheep's clothing, a double-edged blade, at least in my hands. Too much thought kills the workflow. Besides beast synths joining the arsenal, increasing complexity by their learning curve. Like the 35-hp throaty Grendel DC-2e in seafoam-green tolex, sort of freaky 'Moog Model D' hosting toads. On top of that, i stop recording to tape because sound definition suffers too much loss : now the bright digital recordings reveal my insufficient producer abilities. Very small in the big leagues, compared to Autechre, Boards of Canada, Christ., Aphex Twin, Ceephax, SqP, Monolith, Justice, Thomas Chrome... the ERASED MOON LANDING tapes show how the music genre i venture into is requiring mixing & mastering skills which i have not yet, as well as good functional ears. Some examples of these works :





> Phase III [2022+] : Back to primitive rawness, putting together three Grendels for catastrophic power electronics. No beat, harsh frequencies to explode windows. The autonomous noise/drone trinity washes your brain from the marxist-materialist devil's soup + infinite space beliefs you have been contaminated by so far. But it's not an end in itself. Got to build among the smoking ruins of your dead neurons, heavenly melodies à la Johann Sebastian Bach.

> Conclusion. I have collected various synths over the years, coaxed many unique moments out of them, yet made nothing worth an official release. First, because i'm working class, have already a job, music is a hobby. Then, i can feel more & more how we are at the consummation of ages, with no useful word to add. An instrument myself, to glorify Him who paid back our ransom by His Precious Blood of Infinite Price : Our Lord Jesus Christ, Eternal Wisdom. At least, αὐτόχθονος helped me in my own conversion process, to find my proper way to go : the narrow path of abandonment and spiritual childhood, with Saint Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort as conscience director.
Also another dungeon-project going on, TOUR DE DAVID. Electro-acoustic nylon guitar, vocal, RX5 for percussion.
